Mission

At Enduring Strength, my main goal is to keep you doing all the things you want to be able to do, regardless of age! From the basics - getting up and down from the ground to plant your garden, pick up your grand (or great-grand) kids - to more ambitious goals whatever they may be!

I believe the tools to gain and maintain these abilities are found in the strength training, in order to get and stay strong, we have to keep pushing our limits. Those limits are different for each person, which is why having a knowledgeable coach can make all the difference.

Whether it’s individual physical therapy sessions to address specific musculoskeletal or neuromuscular problems, or group fitness, Enduring Strength strives to be “the place” for people over 55 to work on their fitness and maintain a high quality of life as long as possible!

about

After spending 8 years as a Mechanical Engineer, Becca wanted to get away from the computer and make a bigger difference in people’s lives, so she decided to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Graduating from Washington University in St Louis in 2014, she worked in a typical outpatient PT clinic for 6 years.

The origins of Enduring Strength can be traced back to early 2022 when a woman came to her with a new osteoporosis diagnosis, and she had heard that strength training could help her build bone density without medication, but she didn’t really know what to do or where to start. Becca worked with her to teach her the basics of strength training, but to continue wouldn’t really be covered under our current insurance based health care system - so Bone Builders was born! The first Bone Builders classes were in Mt Vernon in May of 2022, expanded to North Liberty in April of 2023.

Through gradual loading, supervision of form, and always making modifications when life or injury gets in the way of training, participants have made great gains in strength, balance, and improved bone density! Perhaps even more importantly, they have fun doing it :)

What are clients saying about Enduring Strength?

I really appreciate the care Becca takes to make my strength journey a success. Going from being a recliner potato to bench pressing anything is remarkable, and I improve each week.

-Sandy

Becca’s approach to fitness is no nonsense, practical, safe and most of all, individualized. She is insightful and can modify the situation on the spot. She meets us where we are in terms of strength and ability. She is an encouraging, positive and upbeat instructor.

-Deborah

At age 77 this is my very first exercise class, and I am loving it! It feels good to know you are doing something to slow down aging.

-Barb

I have seen many benefits, ranging from lifting 40 lbs of cat litter to carrying heavy containers of soil in my garden without any problem. My core is stronger, which has reduced and mostly eliminated my back pain. I am more active. I have a little more courage to try new activities as a result of my increased body confidence. I am surprised that, after all, I have some muscles.

FAQ

  • Is lifting weights safe?
    • For most people, most of the time, yes! Especially when starting light, and gradually adding weight as you’re feeling good and your form is acceptable. In fact, resistance training is shown to be one of the most potent drivers of improving overall health outcomes in people of all ages.

  • Do you take insurance?
    • For physical therapy, Enduring Strength is “in network” with Medicare and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, out of network with all other insurances. What that means is that unless you have Medicare or BCBS as your primary health insurance, you’ll pay Enduring Strength directly, and we’ll give you a special kind of receipt called a “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. What you get back from them will depend on your policy and what out of network benefits you have. This allows Enduring Strength to spend more time helping clients and less time with the many different insurance companies and policies that people have.

  • What the difference between physical therapy and an individual training session?
    • The main difference is physical therapy is covered by insurance, training sessions are not. Physical therapy sessions are for “medical necessity”. Making that distinction is not always black and white, but guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is used.
